And what a lovely river it is...

I find myself, lately, perplexed at odd times about the fact that I am an adult. Let me clarify. I am going about my usual daily routine, like cleaning (yeah right) or shopping or driving and it suddenly hits me that I am an adult. A full fledged adult. With a kid and all. At times that just strikes me as completely alien and strange. The responsibility of it all. The control factor. The responsibility. The responsibility.

We recently took a day trip to Disney (and yes Meuse, there will be a blog about it...with pics) and several times during the day I was struck with the odd reality that I was an adult enjoying all that the park had to offer with my child. I had the responsibility of choosing the rides and the path through the park and where we went to eat and what we bought. It was interesting to kind of stand back and observe myself being all adult and stuff.

It happened today again at the store. Just this odd detachment that make me think..."Hey, I'm all grown up and adult like."

I don't feel like an adult most of the time. Just a person. Sure I do what I want, when I want. I just have these odd moments of ADULT that kind of smack me in the face every once in a while. Responsibility likes to backhand bitch slap me on occasion, too. I guess I am just so weirded out over the fact that my baby is going to be 5 years old in 2 weeks. It just makes me seem too...adult.

So join me, won't you, as I float peacefully down that lovely river we have all been down before (as I try my hardest to not grow up), you know the one I'm talking about....Denial. (or the Nile...whatever.)

Funny - just the other day I was thinking, "Jeeez how the hell did I get all this old and responsible and stuff" and I swear sometimes I forget I'm not a teenager! Or maybe that's just the rum talking...

Mmmm, did someone say Rum? Wait, that's what got me in this mess in the first place.

I'm not sure what compelled me to click on your name on another blogger's comment section, but I'm SOOOO glad I did!

This post had me cracking up! I thought I was the only one who had these thoughts. Seriously, I feel like this a lot! And, your "baby" is still pretty much a baby. Mine will be 15(!) in a matter of weeks, so I really feel like, "How the hell did this happen?! When did I become not only a grown-up, but the parent of a freakin' teenager!?"

OK, I should be embarrassed to even admit this, but I just spent the last hour reading back through every single one of your posts. My stomach hurts from laughing. AND, as an added bonus, I have a new word for my truck-driver-potty-mouth: fucktard!! I LOVE IT!!

I'm linking you to my blog right now! :)

I also have these feelings at times...it is hard to really grow up...or at least grow up to what I THOUGHT that meant.
I am still a crazy teenager inside a 41 year old body.
And I am allowed to do just what I want...with 2 kids too. :)

Ah! Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down. (Old enough to remember that?) I hope to keep doing regular mental calisthenics, keeping me young at heart. I feel about 25 in my head today. How old are you in your head?

Ah yes, very much old enough to remember that and was hearing the tune in my head before I even finished reading the sentence.

Today? I am feeling about 10 years old. I feel yucky with a sore throat but old enough not to be whining for my mommy. Plus, I have the added benefit of being chronologically old enough to make the "fuck it-I'm not goin' to school/work" call.

Late posting but lemme tell ya...I feel old too. I have a spawn in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary school. Next year, I'll have TWO in high school. Can I run screaming now or do I have to wait?

And welcome ChiTownGirl ;)

BTW TGND...if you're going to mention rum, you should be bringing it with you...along with some Dr Pepper.
